We have recently seen an uptake of bunker quality disputes between our members and bunker suppliers. Bunker represent the biggest single cost for the shipowners and charterers and effective bunker procurement management should start by selecting good bunker suppliers ensuring that ships receive the correct fuel quantity and quality.

Skuld’s IMO 2020 sulphur cap experience

More than a year has passed since the International Maritime Organization (IMO) mandate for the 0.50% sulphur cap for marine fuel (MARPOL Annex VI) came into force. The regulation orders ships to only use marine fuels with a sulphur content of no more than 0.50% sulphur. Ships fitted with an approved type of exhaust gas cleaning system (EGCS) or scrubbers may continue to use high sulphur fuel oils.

Onboard safety precaution on tank cleaning – “The Final Stretch” for IMO 2020 Sulphur Cap

The shipping industry is now making the final preparation for the compliance with the IMO 0.50% sulphur cap with less than a month to go before the new regulation takes effect on 1 January 2020. Skuld would like to advice its members on the risk for the IMO 2020 regulation, particularly to the crew onboard who will be cleaning the tanks if the vessel will use compliant fuel.
